Quarantine training routine

When I first realized I was going to have to figure out how to workout at home I was intimidated. Sounds silly because gyms can be intimidating for others, but for me, working out in my home amid the distractions of my dog, my things, my phone etc opposed to staying at the gym for an hour or taking a hot yoga class seemed like a challenge. Well it's one that obviously we all had to get used to. I am surprised and excited to say that working out at home has been not only more effective to my overall physique it seems but it has also been so much fun making space and time in my home to do so ESPECIALLY when all these incredible fitness studios/trainers are offering free IGlive workouts!

I've been able to try so many different workouts from people all around the world that I wouldn't have normally been able to and for free (In NYC, when you can avoid paying $36 for a fitness class, you take advantage).

I wanted to share what I have been doing to maintain my training schedule while bored in the house, in the house bored so below I've listed some of my favorite trainers/studios that are offering awesome IG live or Zoom workouts as well as what I do everyday to feel healthy and strong! This is in no way saying you SHOULD be working out during this time or SHOULD be doing anything - some days, just getting out of bed for some fresh air is enough! This is more to show you what I like to do for days that maybe you want a little movement.

Note: I am not certified in anything, just an avid fitness goer who wants to share!

I workout 6x a week and one of those is usually an active recovery day that includes pilates or yoga of some kind. Sunday is my full rest day where let myself be a couch potato.

Running

I've been starting my days with a run just to get the blood flowing and get some cardio in. I only do that maybe 3-4 days a week. Running has always been so hard for me OMG hahahah but it feels good especially as I keep at it and see myself getting better and able to go for longer. At the gym, I used to run for miles but now I run for time which I've. been enjoying a lot more. I'll set my alarm for 30 minutes or however long and just go. It's easier to not have to worry about distance especially when I'm wearing a mask and dodging people. The most important thing for me personally is just keeping my heart rate up for an extended amount of time.

Pilates

Pilates has truly changed my core strength, dance technique, yoga practice, and overall posture. It is low impact so good for my active recovery days or supplemented with strength training but will also whip your tummy into shape faster than any workout I've done. Give it a try!

@camnorsworthy releases a weekly IGlive schedule that includes 3-4 pilates based classes that are incredible! She teaches at SolidCore in NYC and is just an amazing inspiring person and instructor. Her music is dope and she makes me hate/love pilates.

HIIT/Strength

I think I've noticed the biggest change in my body when I started alternating between strength training and circuit training or HIIT. I only have 5 pound weights, a booty band and a set of gliders but I've somehow felt sweatier, more tired then after any workout at the gym with access to all those weights. It's been amazing seeing how hard you can workout with your body weight or low weight.

@lindseyharrod does IGlive workouts 5-6 days a week and has truly changed my body during this whole quarantine! I think I've done almost every single one. I feel so much stronger than I did two months ago! Her workouts vary from pilates reformer style slow sculpting to heavy leg days but truly any of them are so good! She used weights for a lot of the workout which is a great balance to a lot of the body weight workouts out there right now. I'm so grateful I started following her.

@daniellepeazermethod is a studio based in London so I was so excited when she started teaching IGlive classes! They're usually around 30 minutes long and are based in dance technique which I love! They work those small muscles that you never knew existed until you're burning all over. Highly recommend her booty workout days for that one glorious day we're allowed on the beach again.

@erikaannhammond for all your high intensity boxing needs! Her workouts on IGTV are incredible! Even without being able to punch the bag, her shadowboxing rounds are straight fire! Full body workout for sure.

@madfit has an amazing YouTube channel full of so many different kind of workouts options! I like combining her ab series with a hiit cardio series or legs/abs, etc. She has so many options and a lot of them are 15-25 minutes which are great for the days when I want to move somehow but not in the mood for a long workout.

Yoga/Meditation

I don't even know how to put into words how much I love yoga. I could blab about it for hours and hours. It's been a constant for me for almost half my lifetime but it's something that has especially gotten me through this crazy time. I am grateful for yoga every single day. If you've never tried it, maybe now is the time!

So yes, this is the studio that I work at and I am probably a bit biased but I have truly never taken a bad class here. They are offering free Zoom yoga classes everyday through their website that are not only led by the amazing teachers but also give you a sense of community again since you can see everyone else that is practicing with you.

@radi8hotyoga is a studio in AZ that I practice at when I go home for the holidays since it's walking distance from my parent's house! I was so happy when they started doing IGlive flows and daily meditation. All of them are saved to their IGTV so I definitely recommend checking them out! I've been trying to incorporate their 10 minute meditations into my morning routine.

I hope you check out some of these accounts that I've posted. I know this is a hard time but working out has been one the things getting me through the day to day. Moving your body is some way everyday is so important whether it's just a walk around the block or a full on workout. This post is no way intended to shame you if you don't want to workout but just to offer options for you if you do! We will all get through this together!

xoxo
